Smallpools’ “Fake a Happy Face!” explores the difficulty of separating social media from reality

Smallpools offers another glimpse into their highly anticipated project Ghost Town Road (east) – the first part in a two-part album release – with their latest track “Fake a Happy Face!” Laden with fuzzy textures and infectious sing-along hooks, the song explores the challenge of distinguishing between the curated world of social media and the raw reality of everyday life.

In this latest single from the American trio, you’re going to find Mike, Sean, and Beau explore the longing for a fresh start, evoking the feeling of lying in bed under the weight of the world. The track captures the rollercoaster of emotions that can flip in an instant—where moments of euphoria blend seamlessly with bouts of despair. “‘Fake a Happy Face!’ is about yearning to escape, to start over, lying in bed with the weight of the world upon you,” Smallpools says about their latest single. “There are so many mixed emotions that switch on a dime. Everything’s great and everything sucks. ‘Fake a Happy Face!’ and keep on cruising the best you can.”

This single joins the ranks of recent releases like “Motorbike (Wild Ones)” and “Night Shift,” all set to feature on the initial part of the upcoming album, slated for release in the first week of April. Crafted and recorded at Mike’s residence in Los Angeles, Smallpools’ upcoming will album serve as – both a reaffirmation of their anthemic alt-pop roots and a – reflective ode to growth.
