ETM: Who is Yolanda Be Cool and how did your namesake come about?

YBC: Hi. We’re Yolanda Be Cool aka Andrew Stanley and Matt Handley. We’ve been doing this together for over 15 years now and literally best friends. The name comes from a scene in Pulp Fiction – if you’ve seen the film you will know – the diner scene where they are robbing the diner…

What artists or bands are on your must-listen to list lately and why?

On the dj front, we’ve been loving what SOSA and his label COCO have been putting out. Always checking out whatever PAWSA puts out. Same with Butch. Our buddy Caleb Jackson is on fire too.

When you go into the recording studio to work on new material, what are your must-haves?

We are very in the box so really, all we need is some great speakers, a keyboard and some wifi to find samples.

Which song, or songs, of yours would you recommend to a first-time listener and why?

A nice little from there to here type history could be established by checking We No Speak Americano, Hacia La Noche, Dance and Chant, Space Jam, Bolivian Sunrise, Segunda and Hip Trumpets.

Which song of someone else’s (artist or band) would you have liked to feature on and why?

Finder by Ninetoes is a song we wish we wrote. It’s definitely a song we have played a lot over the years.

What has led you into becoming musicians and why do you keep making music?

AJAX was always our hero and inspiration and we were lucky enough to get to see him dj and play with him many times. We keep making music because we absolutely love doing it. Not to mention, it feels like such a great time to be releasing dance music because the dance music that’s popular, is also the dance music we love.
