Basking in the radiant glow of summer, Alice Ivy delivers a musical sunbeam with her latest single, ‘Wildlife’, which serves as a glimpse into her forthcoming studio album, ‘Do What Makes You Happy,’ set to drop in 2024.
Co-written with Pip Norman and Dutch singer-songwriter Dotan, ‘Wildlife’ marks a joyous return for Alice Ivy, featuring her own vocals on an entire verse—whistling included. The track is a blend of playful instrumentals and Alice’s signature production – capturing the energetic rush of summer moments – where audible sand meets breezes in search of cool, quenching reprieve.
Inspired by the iconic sounds of Empire Of The Sun, ‘Wildlife’ showcases a fusion of acoustic and electronic elements. “I love the blend of acoustic and electronic elements in the production,” Alice says. “[I]t reminds me of long drives with the windows down in the Australian summer.”
The song’s genesis is as fascinating as its composition. Alice Ivy shares insights into the collaborative process, explaining how the track organically took shape during a session with Pip Norman: “We re-wrote the verses and I called on my friend Ben Townshend who I met when I co-produced a song for his band, because I thought the tone of his voice would be perfect,” Alice says. “For the finishing touch, I contacted one of my all-time favourite drummers, Sean from Bleachers (who’s drum packs I’ve used all over my project in the past). It was a bit of a reach, but to my surprise and complete excitement Sean said yes! Despite all of the moving parts, this song came together really organically and quickly!”
‘Wildlife’ boasts an ensemble of talents, with guest vocals by Rest For The Wicked’s Ben Townsend and drums tracked by Sean Hutchinson of Bleachers. Despite the multitude of moving parts, the song came together and quickly, which is an emphasis of Alice’s artistic intuition.
The single follows the success of Alice’s recent single, ‘Broke My Heart‘, and serves as a preview of her upcoming album.
