The Utopiates explore the themes of hope and hedonism in their new single “The Sun Also Rises”

British indie-rock band The Utopiates are back with a delicious new single called “The Sun Also Rises” and it’s a rousing feel-good anthem that coincides with the release of their new album. This latest release follows on from the releases of their previous singles – the 90s rave-tinged “Ups and Downs“, “Making History“, and “Illuminise” – and showcases the band’s evolution as they continue to push the boundaries of their unique brand of groove-laden powerhouse indie unit.

The Utopiates say that their newest song is the first tune they’ve written from the ground up as a full band operating as the well-oiled machine they are today. It all started with a beautiful groove that members Joe and Luke – through their rhythm section – were jamming around a bass riff. Josh latched onto it and built guitar hooks all over it, and the band loved it immediately!

“The idea for the title (and the album title as well) came from Dan’s lockdown obsession about the roaring 20’s repeating itself in the 21st century,” says the band. “A pandemic subsiding and bringing about the dawn of a golden age of hedonism and art. It’s stolen from Hemingway’s first novel and we think it typifies what The Utopiates has always been about; hope. ‘When one moon fades our light tuns to shade but the sun also rises’.”

In terms of production, the new song showcases The Utopiates’ impeccable musicianship and slick production values through their instrumentals and tight driving rhythm section that showcases the song’s forward and guitar hooks. The vocals further impress, with lead singer Dan’s powerful voice soaring above the mix with ease.

With this latest song, The Utopiates continue to show why they’re one of the most exciting new indie-rock bands around – it might have something to do with their infectious energy and ability to craft killer hooks and catchy melodies – and is sure to win them even more fans as they hit the road for a series of shows this spring, with dates scheduled in Nottingham, Glasgow, Brighton, Bristol, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, and London.

5th May – The Crown, Bristol
6th May – Deaf Institute, Manchester
11th May – Dead Wax, Birmingham
12th May – Brudenell, Leeds
2nd Jun – The 100 Club, London
