Iranian-American singer-songwriter Rahill has released her new psychedelic art pop single ‘Fables’, featuring production and dream-like vocal contributions from Beck. The single comes ahead of Rahill’s debut solo album, which will be released in May. Alongside the release of the single is the enchanting music video directed by Irie Calkins, starring Rahill, Beck, and actor Medalion Rahimi.
Rahill and Beck bonded over their shared love of music greats and legends during a trip to Los Angeles, where Rahill began sharing early versions of songs from the upcoming album with Beck. “I began sharing rough songs from the album with him and he was really supportive and encouraging about making a full album out of the songs,” Rahill says about the experience. “It meant a lot to me because he was a huge source of inspiration.”
‘Fables’ is the last song that Rahill wrote for the upcoming album, which came to her while on a summer drive through the scenic mountains near her home. Rahill wanted to capture that present moment, a heightened sensation of spirit, windows down, all senses engaged, a feeling of jubilation and bliss. With the infectious beat by Alex Epton, Beck contributed his own ideas, making it a full-circle moment not just for the song but also for Flowers At Your Feet as a whole.
Director Irie describes the music video as “somewhat of a fairy tale.” The video takes the viewer on an imaginative journey through love, following Rahill through different scenes of life – from a cramped doll house to a mystical boat ride, to an abandoned castle on a beach. Along the way, she has the company of her ferryman Beck, as well as a mysterious enchantress, Medallion. The video is campy, mystical, and feels like magic.
Rahill’s new single is an enchanting psychedelic art-pop anthem that captures a heightened sensation of spirit and bliss. The music video directed by Irie is also a mystical fairy tale journey through love, accompanied by ethereal vocals and guitar by Beck.
