telekura’s ‘big nothing’ is a tongue-in-cheek take on the pressure to have your life figured out

There’s something exhausting about being constantly told how to live your life: wake up earlier, build your personal brand, optimise your morning routine, follow these five steps and apparently you, too, can become a properly functioning adult! However, Dublin collective telekura have heard enough of it, and their new single turns that frustration into a wonderfully wonky piece of grunge-pop.

The song started, fittingly, as a rant about LinkedIn life coaches and all those neat little frameworks promising a roadmap to success. But the song also taps into something much broader: that gap between who you actually are and the polished, productive person adulthood supposedly requires you to become. telekura don’t offer another solution, as rather poke fun at the whole idea, allowing Rachel’s hazy, emotionally worn vocals to carry the frustration while pounding drums and deliberately off-kilter synths make everything feel slightly unstable. In fact, this song sounds like trying to keep your life together while another stranger on the internet tells you you’re doing it wrong.

In an online world increasingly filled with AI-generated advice, motivational posts and people selling certainty, this song celebrates the possibility that maybe none of us really have everything figured out – and maybe becoming a successful adult doesn’t require pretending that we do.
