Stand Atlantic have spent years taking their music around the world, but their new single is for the people they wish they could bring along with them. The Sydney pop-punk favourites are back with a huge, heart-on-sleeve rock song about missing your people – not necessarily a romantic partner, but the friends and chosen family who make somewhere actually feel like home.
“Sometimes it’s hard to stay present because you want to be somewhere else,” vocalist Bonnie explains, and that feeling is all over the new song, as there’s something bittersweet about a band getting to travel the world with their best friends while still missing everyone they’ve left back home.
Stand Atlantic turn that strange push-and-pull into exactly the kind of song they do best: massive melodies, heavy drums and fuzzy guitars, with all that longing eventually exploding into a euphoric rock chorus. Or, as Fraser puts it much more simply, it’s “a love song you can send to your homies.”
It feels like a fitting final stop before their new album arrives, too, as Stand Atlantic have come a long way from their early Sydney days, moving through Skinny Dipping, Pink Elephant, F.E.A.R. and 2024’s Was Here while continually messing around with what pop-punk can sound like. Now this new song brings things back to something wonderfully uncomplicated: sometimes you can be doing exactly what you love, somewhere on the other side of the world, and still really, really want to be sitting next to the people you miss.
