The Veronicas’ ‘Gothic Summer’ is a dark comedy

The Veronicas’ highly anticipated latest album release, “Gothic Summer,” marks their first in a decade. After a period of much-needed introspection and disconnection, Lisa and Jessica found themselves drawn into the creation of their unexpected sixth album; which showcases a diverse range of authenticity across 8 tracks.

Describing the album as an exploration of alternative realities and subconscious motivations, the duo explains, “‘Gothic Summer’ is a dark comedy, much like life itself – we laugh to keep from crying.” Produced by collaborator John Feldmann, the album sees Jess and Lisa exploring multifacited themes of speculation, toxic obsession, societal pressures, and more.

“Gothic Summer is about alternative realities, its more subconsciously motivated and metaphorical than our previous records,” Jessica and Lisa say about their latest release.

For their most adventurous project to date, The Veronicas enlisted a star-studded lineup of pop/rock artist, including Travis Barker, Sierra Deaton, Ryan Linville, Zhone, and Chris Collins, challenging each collaborator to step outside their usual musical style. One surprising collaboration on Track 4, “Savage,” features Australian hip hop’s anti-hero Kerser, painting a vivid sonic portrait of betrayal and disappointment.

Going into detail on the unexpected partnership, Jessica expressed gratitude for Kerser’s support and authenticity in the over 3-minute song, stating, “To collaborate with someone who’s been at the forefront of Australian hip hop for 20 years is a huge honor for us. He also had our backs in a personal situation. While most people are all talk, he’s a real one.”

“Gothic Summer” represents a significant milestone for The Veronicas – offering a further glimpse into their new-aged dynamic vocals and songwriting in an album showcasing their versatility, evolution, and enduring pop star power after all these years later – from dance floor anthems to 60s & 70s surf rock influences, “Gothic Summer” is an of their fearless spirit and unwavering commitment to pushing boundaries.
