The Last Dinner Party’s ‘On Your Side’ is a love song with its hands tied

The Last Dinner Party’s debut album, “Prelude To Ecstasy,” promises to be a musical journey diving into the extremes of human emotion. To amplify the statement, the band have released a new track, “On Your Side”, a love song that encapsulates the feeling of being so devoted to someone that escape becomes impossible, no matter the pain.

Produced by James Ford, “On Your Side” showcases the band’s versatility across the alternative soundscape, with an outro that morphs and fragments before the closing lines, it’s a testament to the band’s ability to create emotionally charged sonic landscapes.

“‘On Your Side’ is a love song with its hands tied,” the band reiterate about the song. “It’s about being so devoted to someone that no matter what they do, no matter how much it hurts, how much you know you should leave, you can’t escape.

The outro comes from an improvised moment in the studio, where James had a synthesiser that warped and delayed and played with the fabric of whatever someone put into it, “So Aurora and Abigail sat in the studio after lunch and improvised some piano and vocal lines, letting the sounds build on top of each other until that final gasp,” the band continue. “It turned into this wrenching shimmering section that sounds like the end of a poisonous relationship; dissolving, fragmenting, painful but also ultimately freeing.”

The Last Dinner Party – consisting of Abigail on vocals, Aurora on keys, Emily on lead guitar/flute, Georgia on bass, and Lizzie on guitar – describes “Ecstasy” as a pendulum swinging between the highs of passion and the sublimity of pain. Their debut album is a profound exploration of collective and individual experiences, with influences woven intricately into its runtime. Exorcising guitars for soulful solos, baring confessions straight from diary pages, and summoning an orchestra to breathe life into their vision, the band declares, “It is our greatest honor and pride to present this offering to the world; it is everything we are.”

The Last Dinner Party’s “Prelude To Ecstasy” is the closing of an introductory chapter and the grand opening of the next, with “On Your Side” being the perfect hype.
