Lex Maria’s “Ghosts” EP is a noisy homage to the late 80s and 90s

Lex Maria is an alternative punk-rock band from Southern Sweden and they have released their latest offering, the 4-track EP titled “Ghosts”, recorded at Studio Möllan, their EP is a showcase of inspiration from the noisy rock and alternative sound of the late 80s and 90s, with distinctive sound and unapologetic approach to rock music.

Lex Maria’s music exudes an undeniably raw and charged energy. Their second EP – following the release of Handcuffed + Burned in 2021 – is a sonic journey that showcaseas their unique take on the the band’s commitment to their craft, which is evident as they embrace their identity and deliver a collection of tracks that throw powerful vocals right in your face.

The EP is a mix of intensity and emotion (“Shardes/Knifes” & “Plague or Pain” are highlights), as Lex Maria presents a sonic landscape that is also gritty and guitar driven (“Ghosts”). The vocals of band members Aleks and Nelly spread intricate melodies and infectious riffs, while the rhythm section, comprised of Martin and Martin on bass and drums, providing a solid foundation that drives the EP across the nearly 18-minute runtime.

It would be an understatement to say that with this EP, Lex Maria demonstrates their versatility and willingness to experiment, as they show much more through the way they are able to blend elements of indie punk, alternative rock, and 90s noise.
