Dig in and enjoy the first serving of brand-new music for 2023!

G2, Jeris Johnson, Yonaka – DETONATE

I can’t claim to be one of the biggest enthusiasts of eSports, but I can absolutely appreciate a finely put-together song, and that is what ‘Detonate’ truly is. Whilst G2 Esports might be one of the most entertaining Esports organisations, I think they might have found a new calling in the world of music.

Working in collaboration with Jeris Johnson and Theresa Jarvis from English rock band Yonaka on the project, ‘Detonate’ is more than just a fun, game of bowling visually, its an excuse to bring people together through video games as a whole.

“I’ve been wanting to get my music involved in the gaming space for a while now, so when G2 first approached me about ‘Detonate’ it was an absolute no-brainer,” Jeris says on the collaboration with G2. “Been a gamer my entire life and still have dreams of making the soundtrack to a game at some point in the future.”

bludnymph – Lights Out

This is the type of song that emphasises bludnymph’s darker side of her music, which plays prominent. In fact, “Lights Out” serves as an outlet for the artist to work on setting boundaries in her personal life.

bludnymph wrote “Lights Out” with two of her favourite people: Cirkut & FANNGS, respectively. Cirkut came up with the beat nad FAANGS hummed the hook. “We were making a lot of fun cutesy music in the studio before this track, so I guess the angel on my shoulder was gone for the day and my little demon came out to play,” bludnymph reveals about the creation of her newest single. “I like to incorporate a spooky, yet magical feeling into my music. I experiment with different genres, with some old Brothers Grimm energy.”

Dual Manner – Start Again

Hailing from Melbourne, electronic duo Dual Manner has kicked off their 2023 with the release of their hyper-energetic anthem, “Start Again”. Comprising of TJ and Bryce, the respective artists bring together their personal take on world of dance music through the use of powerful, head-bopping production through the consistent synths, keys, and underlying guiding soundscape. The lyrics and vocals are not to be overlooked either, as they speak on the story of relationships coming to an end.

“There’s a fear of starting over, but also an anticipation of a new start,” Bryce explains about the story of their newest song. “As a band, the lyrical theme also corresponds to our project, Dual Manner. A new direction in our careers and the sound of a project we’ve put our hearts into over the past five years.”

Frankie Rose – Anything

Frankie Rose has returned after a six-year hiatus with a fresh offering of her aesthetically, soothing offering “Anything”. You’d be remiss to overlook how calming the nature of Frankie’s newest single is, which comes off the release of her upcoming new album, due out for release in March.

néomí – skipping stone

I have been a fan of néomí’s work ever since coming across her single “if i wasn’t made for love” in February 2022, so it is great to see that she is on her way to delivering a beautiful EP in the form of ‘after’, due for release in April.

néomí’s newest single is a deep and honest retelling of néomí’s journey through love and personal interests. The atmosphere is haunting and the maker’s néomí’s over-arching néomí’s peak atop.

“I remember myself writing this with my dear friend Jesse Koch, while I had just fallen in love with someone, néomí says about the release of her new single. “That someone was going through a difficult time, and in those moments of our relationship I felt like a skipping stone: picked up and thrown over the water, as if I was nothing to him.”

Daughter – Be On Your Way

You’d be remiss to overlook just how calming this newest single from Daughter is – both visually and audibly. Coming off the release of their first studio album in over seven years, Daughter’s “Be On Your Own Way” showcases their strongest aspect: dark lyrics and emotions, and giving enough members of the band – Elena, Igor and Remi – enough time to strut their stuff per se.

Regal Cheer – Behavioural Patterns

Regal Cheer are a Brighton-based Indie-Punk duo and “Behavioural Patterns” is the final single before the release of their debut album, due out for release in the first week of February. If the album is as fast paced, hard hitting and right in your face – as this song has left me feeling – then their debut album is going to be a piece of highly addictive headbanging goodness.

Dulcie – Test Drive

After spending a solid amount of time in 2022 performing on the road, Perth trio, Dulcie, have kicked off their 2023 with the release of ‘Test Drive’, a song that doubles as a step forward in defining a chapter of their careers, to this date, as performing artists.

The band’s newest song is full of vibrant, fell good energetic atmospheres, and a soaring vocal range, with each band contributing to the undeniable charm of the entire outing.

“‘Test Drive’ captures the feeling of being in a one-sided relationship,” the band reveal about the song’s story, “the kind where you doubt your partner’s intentions are aligned with yours, or if you’re being led on.”

Beat Awfuls – Ego Death Kult

“Ego Death Kult” is the story of how an oppressive reality becomes clear that it flashes neon with ridiculousness, like an exit sign. This song contains guitars, head-bopping nuances, and vocals that hypnotise you.

“The hypnotic guitar riff forces out an instinctive head-bob, ad infinitum, becoming terminally driving — like a cult imperative,” Dave from Beat Awfuls explains. “The lyrics play against this hypnosis with almost flippant affirmations like, “let it all out.” While we are busy trying to figure out if this is an entreaty for or against the cult, we get the sense that— hey, either way, I think we’re going to make it out of this thing alive.”
