In shocking news, it appears that Lana Del Rey may not be gracing us with her presence at the Glastonbury Festival in 2023. The singer, known for her moody, depressing tunes, has threatened to back out of her main position due to the lack of attention given to her by the event organisers.
Apparently, Lana is upset that her name was buried on the seventh line of the lineup announcement – see for yourself in the embed below – behind such “lesser-known” artists as Sir Elton John, Arctic Monkeys, and Guns N Roses. How dare they not give her the top billing she so clearly deserves? And to make matters worse, Lana is also upset that the headlining acts are all white males, lacking diversity in the lineup.
Emily Eavis, the event organiser, has a perfectly reasonable explanation for all of this. Apparently, there’s a “pipeline” problem in the music industry that makes it difficult to attract female headliners.
Seriously though, it is a shame that Lana Del Rey is feeling so “disappointed” by the lack of attention given to her at Glastonbury. After all, she’s such a huge star with such a massive following. Who wouldn’t want to see her moaning and sighing on stage for an hour or two? But I suppose we’ll just have to console ourselves with the fact that there are plenty of other talented artists out there who actually deserve to be headlining festivals. And while it is understandable that artists want to be recognised and appreciated for their talents, Lana Del Rey’s behaviour is simply unacceptable. The fact that she is willing to put her ego and personal agenda ahead of her fans and the festival organisers is truly disappointing.
So, to all the Lana Del Rey fans out there, let’s not despair too much. There are plenty of other festivals where she can perform, and I’m sure she’ll get top billing at all of them. And who knows, maybe one day she’ll be recognised as the musical genius she is and finally get the attention she clearly deserves.
Instead of throwing a tantrum and threatening to back out of the festival, maybe Lana Del Rey should be working with organisers to address these issues and promote change in the music industry as a whole. Her actions are counterproductive to the cause she claims to support.
