Former U.S. President Donald Trump has just released a charity single called “Justice for All” in collaboration with a choir of men held in a Washington DC prison for their involvement in the deadly January 6 insurrection that he (allegedly) incited. The song is available on streaming platforms now. Trump recites the Pledge of Allegiance while a male voice choir sings The Star-Spangled Banner in the background. The song lasts for about two and a half minutes and ends with a chant of “U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!” The profits will go to the families of people imprisoned for their alleged roles in the Capitol riots that left five people dead.
It is not clear who produced the song, but a video is set to debut on Steve Bannon’s “War Room” podcast. The former president asked to be directly involved in the recording after hearing about the original plan, and Kash Patel, who worked in the Pentagon during the Trump administration, and conservative commentator Ed Henry reportedly joined him in spearheading the project.
Although some might find the idea of a president releasing a charity single controversial, it is not entirely unprecedented. For instance, former President Bill Clinton played the saxophone and was once a guest on The Arsenio Hall Show, where he famously played “Heartbreak Hotel” by Elvis Presley. Additionally, former President Barack Obama has been known to sing on occasion, and he once sang a few bars of “Let’s Stay Together” by Al Green during a campaign speech.
“Justice for All” is a patriotic song with a touch of controversy. Whether you agree or disagree with the former president’s involvement in it, it is undeniably an interesting addition to the history of presidential involvement in music. However, in saying that, I do not think Donald Trump is going to be a surprise guest singer on Masked Singer anytime soon.
