Filiah’s “Atlas” chronicles the crushing weight of self-management

Rising Austrian indie-folk artist Filiah marks a new chapter in her career with the release of her latest single. This deeply personal track represents her triumphant return to music after a two-year creative hiatus.

Filiah’s ‘Atlas’ chronicles her journey through the crushing weight of self-management as an independent artist, which left her creatively paralysed following her 2022 release. From booking her own shows to handling PR, the overwhelming demands of wearing every hat took a toll on her mental and emotional health. “I felt emotionally and physically exhausted, burnt out, and overwhelmed by changes in my personal life,” Filiah shares.

The turning point came unexpectedly during a songwriting retreat organised by the Croatian artists’ collective, welovemelodies. There, surrounded by fellow creators, Filiah rediscovered her passion for music. Her latest single became the result of this transformative experience — a reflection of her journey from silence to song.

‘Atlas’ sees Filiah turn her struggles into poetry, through her emotive vocals over indie-folk arrangements, crafting a narrative about the creative paralysis that once silenced her. It’s a song about self-doubt, the pressure to meet personal and external expectations, and the longing to be truly understood. “It explores the feeling of thinking you’re never enough, wired all wrong, and struggling to believe someone will ever get you, while simultaneously wanting nothing more than to just be yourself,” she explains.

The track not only confronts the artist’s challenges but transforms them into something beautiful. ‘Atlas’ stands as a statement of vulnerability and strength, turning writer’s block into inspiration and marking Filiah’s artistic rebirth.
