Singer-songwriter Cassadee Pope has released the deluxe edition of her latest album, Hereditary, which marks Cassadee’s first full-length record following her return to the pop-punk roots that defined her early career. Hereditary offers an emotional deep dive into themes of life, love, and self-discovery.
The deluxe edition of includes three new songs: “Say It Again,” “The Poet,” and “Bad Decisions,” each exploring different facets of relationships and personal growth.
“Say It Again” tackles insecurities in relationships, reflecting on how past experiences can cloud our present connections. The track – full of nostalgic pop-punk riffs and catchy melodies – continues the album’s overarching exploration of resilience and growth. Cassadee captures the internal tension of vulnerability, blending emotionally charged lyrics with lively instrumentation.
“The Poet” sees Cassadee flexing her storytelling muscles, delivering cheeky lyrics against crunchy guitars and energetic drums. The song critiques someone who uses words to create a false narrative, masking their flaws with poetic charm. Its playful, yet biting tone fits seamlessly within the album’s examination of relational dynamics and self-awareness.
The previously released single, “Bad Decisions” strikes a balance between upbeat energy and reflective lyricism, capturing the twists and turns that life throws at us. It’s a relatable anthem that encourages listeners to embrace life’s imperfections, reinforcing the coming-of-age themes that run throughout the album.
Discussing the motivation behind the deluxe edition, Cassadee says that she wanted to release a deluxe version because of songs that didn’t make it on the final album. “I wanted to release a deluxe version of Hereditary because there were other songs I wrote that didn’t make the album but feel important to tell my story.” Cassadee says. “I look at these songs like bonus scenes at the end of movie credits. They help round out the story but give it a place to go.”
Hereditary is a musical offering – and a personal testament to the highs and lows that have shaped Cassadee’s journey – from her early days with Hey Monday to her country music success, and now her return to pop punk, Cassadee has never strayed from being fearlessly, unapologetically herself.
