Suki Waterhouse’s “Supersad” is a nineties song at heart

Musician and multifaceted artist Suki Waterhouse has announced the release of her new 18-track double album, ‘Memoir of a Sparklemuffin,’ set for release in SeptemberPop. Leading the album is “Supersad”, which bursts with energy thanks to fast-paced drum fills and garage-style guitars.

“I tried to write a nineties song you could hear playing at the mall in Clueless or as an opening track for Legally Blonde”, Suki explains with a smile. Produced by Brad Cook and executive produced by Eli Hirsch, the track was co-written by Suki alongside Chelsea Balan, John Mark Nelson, and Lilian Caputo.

Accompanying the single is the official video, featuring Suki as both a bed-ridden protagonist and her whimsical game show fairy godmother. The video was created by filmmaker and longtime collaborator Émilie Richard-Froozan.

The album is loosely centered around the transformative concept of the Sparklemuffin spider. Suki explains that she “came across the Sparklemuffin — which is wildly colored, does this razzle-dazzle dance, and its mate will cannibalise it if she doesn’t approve of the dance. It’s a metaphor for the dance of life we’re all in. The title felt hilarious, ridiculous, and wonderful to me.”
