What We’ve Been Listening To: Bad Party

Bad Party are inspired by Silent Planet, Invent Animate, Spiritbox, I Prevail, and I See Stars, and would really like the opportunity to collaborate and produce with Bring Me the Horizon!

Brisbane Metalcore outfit Bad Party unleashes their heaviest single yet, “Pray,” featuring new vocalist Dale Dudeson from fellow metalcore group Revoid. Produced, mixed, and mastered by Callan Orr at, their newest track – is accompanied by a dark music video – explores the profound impact of human connection, vocalist Dale reveals the concept behind “Pray,” stating it dives into how the right person can bring both beauty and destruction, reducing you to your knees. This provocative single marks Bad Party’s first release with their new vocalist, promising a potent musical evolution.

Have a listen to their latest single before getting to know more about the Brisbane band!

Who is Bad Party and how did your namesake come about?

Cam: Bad Party, in our current form, is a collection of Daniel Long and Alex Nisiriou (both on guitars), Campbell Henderson (bass) and Dale Dudeson (vocals). You might notice we are short a drummer, and when the computer isn’t doing it, Daniel is filling in for now. Bad Party formed during the early days of COVID with Cam and a few members who are no longer active with the band. Born from a group of valley-rats and ex-DJ’s, their roots were firmly planted in heavier music and it seemed fitting to call ourselves Bad Party. Coined from the bonds you gain at even the worst events, the stories and traumas of generating something positive out of the most negative experiences is a statement we follow through into our song writing and lyrical content.

What artists or bands are on your must-listen to list lately and why?

DL: Some regulars we’ve been pumping recently are: Silent Planet, Invent Animate, Spiritbox, I Prevail, and I See Stars. I love a perfect balance of technical to ‘wall of sound’, which is a line that pops up a lot when writing Bad Party songs. These bands have perfected their signature sounds and unapologetically sound like themselves. We don’t draw inspiration from them directly, but get inspired by them for the way they own what they release.

When you go into the recording studio to work on new material, what are your must-haves?

DL: Environment is the biggest factor for me when it comes to converting demos into the finished product. It has to be comfortable, clean, modern, but not over-stimulating that it distracts from the goal. We recorded ‘Pray’ in Dale’s living room with Callan Orr (Dream on Dreamer) and it was perfect. Being surrounded with amps and pedals and guitars is fun, but it can also lead to spending times trying too many things rather than perfecting the foundation you already have. Other than that I’ll always bring a Red Bull in to start the day!

Which song, or songs, of yours would you recommend to a first-time listener and why?

DL: For the moment I would recommend the latest single ‘Pray’ purely because it’s our finest work, and showcases our lineup alongside a boost in quality and finesse. ‘Pray’ is a great precursor for what’s to come from Bad Party, so if you like that then you’ll love what else we have in the bank.

Which song of someone else’s (artist or band) would you have liked to feature on and why?

DL: Having the opportunity to collaborate and produce with Bring Me the Horizon would be an absolute honour. I know they are many people’s favourite and it’s a bit of an unoriginal answer, but they continue to amaze me with reinventing their sound to keep people hungry for more and maintaining interest after so many releases. It’d be great to get in their heads and follow their process.

What has led you into becoming a musicians and why do you keep making music?

DL: We have all been musicians for as long as we can remember. Cam and I have known each other for 20 years, Alex and I met through music and toured together via Chronolyth, which started as his brainchild, and Dale has always been motivated by music and the perfection of his technique and performance. My mum is a music teacher and started me off in singing lessons when I was 3, then I played a million instruments until I landed on drums, taught myself guitar/bass and began writing and producing. Music is what gives meaning to everything else we do, the work week is just making money to survive and reinvest in to our projects; without that life would just be a little less meaningful. The band has chopped and changed in lineup over the years, but Bad Party’s mantra has always been ‘this is the one’, meaning this is the project we put everything in to and consolidate all our experience to take it as far as we can. The sacrifices aren’t for everyone and there are always going to be tough days or periods of time, but what we create will last forever.
