Hannah Stow’s “Even Divide” is the exploration of divided possessions

In this brand new musical narrative – aka her new single “Even Divide” – Hannah Stow dives deep into the visceral experience of having to divide possessions after a love has unraveled, leaving her feeling like the lesser victor in the split.

Hannah’s newest single marks a departure from her acoustic and alt-pop roots of her previous releases, revealing a compelling new facet to her musical repertoire. This time around, though, Hannah leans right into an indie-Oz-rock style through a song that offers a glimpse into her authenticity and unbridled emotion. With a heart-wrenching directness, Hannah’s new single navigates the challenging terrain of dividing not only belongings but also friends in the aftermath of a breakup. As she puts it, “You didn’t make our friends choose but you needed them more so they had to.”

The song’s core theme strikes a chord with anyone who has experienced the pain of a breakup and the subsequent division of shared life possessions. Hannah’s inspiration for the song came from a deeply personal place: “I wrote this song on behalf of my current girlfriend,” Hannah says. “She went through a breakup prior to dating me where her ex took her dogs, the house, and all her friends. I felt like this was super relatable, and it’s so common in breakups for someone to feel like they ‘lost the bet’ or didn’t get an ‘Even Divide’ of their belongings.”

Instrumentality, the bridge of the song, in particular, stands out as a powerful aspect, where Hannah’s audible imagery – of not understanding when the shift happened and the gravity of actions gone unnoticed – resonates deeply. For this song, Hannah envisioned the section as a battle cry, with a mosh pit of people screaming the words at the top of their lungs.

Hannah Stow’s new single “Even Divide” is a showcase of her ability to craft raw emotion and subject matter.
