Softcult’s “Haunt You Still” is about the demoralisation of people

Canadian twin duo Softcult (Mercedes and Phoenix) are setting the stage for a remarkable 2024 with the release of their latest single, “Haunt You Still”. With this song, Softcult showcase an ability to mix shoegaze with thought-provoking lyricism.

While Softcult is yet to unveil their debut album, “Haunt You Still” is a showcase of their distinctive style, mixing enthralling melodies with impassioned calls that dive deep into the intricacies of human existence. The siblings that make up Softcult – Mercedes and Phoenix – bring together a brilliant aesthetic, offering an immersive experience that goes beyond the music within its runtime.

The new single is an exploration of the lingering impact of past relationships and friendships. “Maybe it’s a defence mechanism, but we tend to demonise the people we once held close once they’re out of our lives, and it’s not always warranted. It’s a reactive way of protecting ourselves,” the duo say about the song. “This song is an acknowledgement that when things don’t work out between two people, it’s not always one sole person in the wrong.”

Softcult have opened dialogues about pressing issues: from gender equality to climate change and corporate greed. And with “Haunt You Still”, Softcult invites listening into a sonic experience where the complexities of human connections take center stage.
