JOYNER’s “New Friends” is about wanting to be anonymous

JOYNER’s latest single is a journey that blends together authenticity with innovation, delivering an infectious and danceable track.

“New Friends” is a pulsating pop anthem that oozes with retro-cool aura of the 80s, complete with wavy synths, guitars, and a beat that’s sure to get you on your feet. The song is a perfect mix of nostalgia and contemporary nuances, making it an anthem for modern pop lovers.

“We wrote ‘New Friends’ during a time in our lives where we wanted to be around people who didn’t know us at all,” Summer and Torrey say about the production of the song. “We had just been through a life-altering experience and wanted to be anonymous. There’s something exciting about getting to start over. This song is about turning your sadness into optimism and becoming someone new.”

The music video for the song draws inspiration from a 1958 arthouse film, the video unfolds in a warehouse in DTLA, featuring bursts of photographs that symbolise the need for a new identity. As the lyrics suggest, “I need a new life; it’s nothing personal, I’m different now.”

“New Friends” is the second single from JOYNER’s album, due out for an early 2024 release. Following their deeply personal track “Ted Lasso,” which explored the sisters’ experience coping with the loss of their mother, JOYNER’s music continues to showcase emotional depth, relatable themes, and unique sonic arrangements.
