PET NEEDS’ “Separation Anxiety” is an unconventional, subverted love song

PET NEEDS’ latest track, “Separation Anxiety”, is a ferocious, punk offering that doubles as a blazing concoction of breakneck instrumentals and runaway riffs; which also happens to touch on a simple love story.

Frontman Johnny leads the charge with his vocals that spin offbeat declarations of undying devotion, creating a warped yet delightful take on the traditional love song. The track is a sonic rollercoaster that mirrors the band’s explosive live performances.

“”Separation Anxiety” is an unconventional, subverted love song about my wife Lorna,” Johnny reveals about the song. “We have been together almost 15 years and had never spent more than two weeks apart until last year. I know Lorna would absolutely cringe at anything too over-sincere, so shouting that I love her more than anyone else does is more her style!”

As the band puts the finishing touches on their highly anticipated third album, “Separation Anxiety” is a song that offers a further sneak peek into their recent musical endeavors, with this track encapsulating the band’s fun-focused and frenetic, fast-paced approach to music-making. This song is a vibrant mix of punk, passion and deeper reflections on love and selfworth.

This song is essentially used as a platform for Johnny explore the notion of self-love amidst a decade of sloganeering self-destructive indie bands. The lyrics playfully tease the paradox of promoting self-love while swimming in a sea of self-destructive tendencies, showcasing PET NEEDS’ ability to inject thoughtful contemplations into their energetic punk sound.

I thought PET NEEDS couldn’t get any better with “The Argument“, but here we are.
