Romanie’s debut album is a celebration of individuality, heart, and a musical journey

In a culmination of her musical journey, Romanie presents her debut studio album, ‘Are We There Yet?’ This vibrant collection of twelve tracks follows a trail of foundational singles, a breakout EP in 2021, and a prolific start to 2023. Emerging as one of Melbourne’s brightest songwriters, Romanie’s debut album is a showcase of her evolution as an artist.

‘Are We There Yet?’ is a twelve-track piece of work that reveals the maturity and emotional intelligence of Romanie’s songwriting. From the catchy allure of ‘Anthony‘ to the ethereal vibes of ‘Hallucinating,’ the album brings together a dynamic mix of Romanie’s personal style. The title track, ‘Are We There Yet?,’ and the recent release ‘Cannot Have It All‘ add a powerful emotional punch, making the album an impactful and resonant experience.

“‘Are We There Yet?’ is an album about time, going through the motions and moving on,” Romanie says about the story of her debut album. “Reflecting deeply on myself, my place in this world and my relationship with others – it’s an attempt at grasping the sometimes confusing, yet beautiful chaos we live in. Sonically transforming my thoughts and finding my voice.”

Romanie’s storyrelling shines through on tracks like the album opener, ‘The World Is Ending As We Know It,’ along with ‘Nomadland‘ and ‘Fortune Teller.’ The arrangements are built upon a foundation of swoon-worthy vocals, intricate guitars, and rhythms. In saying all that, though, ‘The Punch’ is my favourite song from the album.

Complementing the album’s rich auditory experience is the official music video for ‘Cannot Have It All.’ Filmed in Mornington and directed by Marcus Coblyn, the visuals provide a stunning contrast between the song’s intimacy and the expansive landscape. Romanie’s quiet confidence radiates through her performance, creating a visual feast for the audience.

In a year where many creative spirits faltered, Romanie found her sonic identity during Melbourne’s lockdown. With ‘Are We There Yet?’ standing as a showcase of her resilience and growth as an artist. This album encapsulates the energy and effervescence of Romanie’s unique musical voice, solidifying her status not just as a local talent but as an artist with national acclaim.

Romanie’s debut album is a celebration of individuality, heart, and a musical journey that promises to leave an indelible mark on the indie scene.
