The Veronicas’ “Perfect” is an ode to society’s obsession with comparison and perception

Australia’s alternative-pop royalty, The Veronicas (Jessica & Lisa), have returned to the music scene with their latest single and music video for “Perfect”, giving fans a much anticipated taste of what is to come from their upcoming album, due out for release early 2024.

The Veronicas’ “Perfect” is a anthem full of 90s nostalgia, infuesed with distorted guitars, melodies; all wrapped into a story about the society’s obsession with comparison and perception. This time around, though, Jessica and Lisa have gone on to incorporate catchy hooks and empowering lyrics, delivering another hit that urges listeners towards greater self-love and embracing their unique designs.

Crafted in collaboration with John Feldmann and Ryan Linville on the project, The Veronicas’ “Perfect” is an explosion of pop-punk – Blink-182’s Travis Barker – in an unexpected and exciting turn, jumps on the drums for the track – adding a dynamic blend of alternative pop and punk influences that showcases The Veronicas at their best.

Speaking on the release, Jessica and Lisa revealed that Perfect is a love letter to their younger and current selves. “Perfection has a different meaning for everyone,” the duo say about the inspiration of the song. “Social media has changed how we interact with the world. Perception versus reality is rewarded and condemned. From what people wear, to who they date. It’s like a magnifying glass. We just want to remind everyone to empower themselves, and free their minds. We all die in the end; we have to live with and love ourselves fiercely first and foremost. On our deathbeds the only opinion that will matter on how you’ve lived will be your own.”

After a brief hiatus from the global spotlight, The Veronicas are back, reclaiming their throne as trailblazers of the alt-pop renaissance. “Perfect” not only marks a return for The Veronicas but reaffirms their status as pioneers in the evolving alt-pop scene.
