Phoenix-based MRCH has released their latest EP, ‘TV Bliss’, a body of work that marks a significant leap into a brave new era.
‘TV Bliss’ represents a bold new chapter for the band, as the EP – three years in the making – sees the duo embracing collaboration, with early demos developed alongside Jimmy Eat World’s Jim Adkins; Tony Hoffer took the reins for mixing, while the mastering was handled by Dave Cooley. This meticulous production showcases MRCH’s evolution and commitment to pushing sonic boundaries through each and every song on the EP.
Drawing inspiration from childhood memories of being lost in the escapism of television, ‘TV Bliss’ echoes themes of nostalgia and introspection. This sentiment is not new to MRCH, with their previous tracks featured in popular TV shows like Shameless, The Vampire Diaries, and The Twilight Zone.
Formed when vocalist Mickey met multi-instrumentalist Jesse at a music store in Arizona, MRCH’s unique blend of backgrounds – Mickey as a singer-songwriter and Jesse in the world of prog-metal – became a strength. Both having studied jazz in Phoenix, their shared influences laid the foundation for MRCH’s distinctive sound.
The video for ‘Wild‘ was shot at Arcosanti, an experimental town nestled in the high desert of Arizona, known for its architecture. The locale perfectly complements the song’s theme of embracing life’s unpredictability and seizing opportunities for adventure. The lyrics, including lines like “Bathe in the sunshine/ do what makes us scared/ Can’t wait for the moment when we’ll feel prepared,” encapsulate a spirit of spontaneity and living in the moment.
“Growing up in the middle of the Arizona desert, Arcosanti is a well known artist community. Kind of Star Warsian,” MRCH say about the video. “We wanted to feature something uniquely home state with a futuristic element cause we’re looking forward… maybe even allowing ourselves to be excited about what’s next ~ which is really what Wild is about. Taking a chance on an adventure.”
‘MRCH’s ‘TV Bliss’ is a journey – across four songs – that marks a turning point for the duo, with their fusion of pop and electronic sounds, coupled with lyrics, promises an experience that jumps musical boundaries.
