Joyriders is a Ukrainian indie-rock band and they have released their newest single ‘dance cult’, an electrifying journey into the band’s desire to transcend the ordinary, presenting a carefree vibe that mirrors their genuine approach to music-making.
Joyriders’ new single shows them at their best: seamlessly blending the essence of 80s music with classic dance beats, infusing their distinctive indie-rock sound. The result is a unique “dance cult”, pun intended, vibe that offers pulsating emotions and limitless self-expression. The track’s narrative takes the lyrical hero on a personal odyssey into the faith of dance, where each step unravels new sensations and opens doors to boundless possibilities.
“This track wasn’t a piece of cake for us as it went through various transformations to get the desired results,” Misha from the band tells Eat This Music. “But, it feels like we finally found our path further and a vision of further development. Also, we managed to express our emotions in full both musically and lyrically.”
“Reflecting back on the time spent making this track we started working as a team in full which gave us the synergy that led to better results and formed our overall sound.”
The process of creating this song not only bolstered their confidence in the final result but also brought joy in the moment, “Generally, we would say that this song captured our cheerful and upbeat emotional state before the full-scale war entered our reality,” Misha continues. “So, it may feel more nostalgic for us now rather than the current state, so it is hard to say about the changes after our previous release.”
The song tells the story of a lyrical hero who got into the world of the dance cult. The sound of the track leads the lyrical hero to the world of rhythms and energy, where he unites with the dance cult. This song becomes his personal journey into the faith of dance, where every step adds new sensations and opens up incredible opportunities for self-expression.
Misha continues, “At the start of the creative process, we didn’t have a strong vision of the final result as there were many aspects to experiment with. That is why we are pleased by how the song turned out and how it has acquired additional elements that solidified the message.”
Overall, the band set a kind of goal for this track to be the climax of the current music they are producing so they can move forward to more experiments in the future.
In means of authenticity, we strive to combine the best we can do – the energy of the live rock/guitar-lead composition and dance rhythms and vibes of synth-based 80s music.

“Basically, this track has undergone a lot of transformation as the first version of it was composed a couple of years later and the final one was done only during studio sessions,” Misha continues. “However, we must say that it is a really complete version of the track, so we haven’t limited ourselves in any decisions regarding this track.”
The remainder of 2023 looks to be a busy time for the Ukrainian band, as they are planning to release their next track by the end of the year and it will be the first single of their upcoming EP.
