What We’ve Been Listening To: Bloom

Sydney’s melodic hardcore outfit, Bloom, has unleashed their latest sonic juggernaut, “Bound To Your Whispers,” marking their bold return after a year-long hiatus. The track not only announces their signing to Pure Noise Records in partnership with Greyscale Records but also reaffirms their position in the melodic hardcore scene.

“Bound To Your Whispers” is an intricate soundscape that immerses in a relentless barrage of melodic, heavy-hitting instrumentation. From the opening chords, it’s evident that Bloom has meticulously crafted an atmpsphere that mirrors the emotional turbulence at the core of the song. The track – produced in collaboration with Christopher Vernon – is a showcase of the band’s commitment to pushing their boundaries.

Vocally, this song delivers a blazing performance that adds an emotional layer to the song’s narrative framed as a dialogue between internal voices, capturing the internal disparity and the struggle against self-doubt.

“Written as dialogue between the two internal voices, the protagonist is manipulated by their own thoughts, falling into a false sense of security,” explains the band.

Bloom has not only marked their triumphant return but has also cemented their place in the pantheon of melodic hardcore, and to celebrate the release of the single, Bloom took part in the latest series of “What We’ve Been Listening To” on Eat This Music.

Who is Bloom and how did your namesake come about?

We are a five-piece melodic hardcore band from Sydney, and the name came about from a brainstorming session in 2018 involving extensive song libraries and online dictionary searches.

What artists or bands are on your must-listen to list lately and why?

Thrown have been releasing super exciting tracks since they began, they have a tenacity to them that is really engrossing. Also our friends in Thornhill and Holding Absence have been killing it with their new records, changing and morphing their styles into music that really feels unique in the current metalcore landscape. Other than that the classics like Miley Cyrus, bad gurl Rhi Rhi, Robbie Williams, Drizzy and Fergie are always being bumped in the Bloom camp – they’re timeless.

When you go into the recording studio to work on new material, what are your must-haves?

Bahn Mi, VR gaming headset, red liquorice. Maybe some instruments as well but they’re optional.

Which song, or songs, of yours would you recommend to a first-time listener and why?
