Carmen Lees explores the expression of growth in her newest single “Cocoon”

London’s Carmen Lees has made a stunning return with her newest single “Cocoon”. This enchanting track marks her first release since 2020, and it showcases her naturally emotive vocals, blending neo-soul with sleek R&B and vibrant orchestral aesthetics, showcasing some of Cocoon’s greatest aspects: delivering a notably sensual and captivating listening experience.

As both the singer and producer of the song, Carmen brings a personal touch to every element of underlying story, as this is a powerful expression of her journey, capturing her feelings of self-doubt after facing difficulties within the music industry.

“Lyrically it’s an expression of growth, written to my old self who was more carefree and extroverted – encouraging my shyness and introverted ways to fall away like a cocoon,” Carmen says about the story of her song. “As a beginner female producer, this song allowed me to practise combining instrumental elements together to create a song I view as art. It’s very freeing to release a personal little snippet of my journey.”

With her unique orientation towards jazz chords and low-ebb hip-hop, Carmen has created a remarkable distinctive atmosphere with this song, and her standout vocal range adds an additional layer of allure, drawing you into the song’s artful storytelling and self-reflection. The track’s masterful production also allows Carmen to experiment with combining various instrumental elements, resulting in a seamless fusion of soulful sounds.
