Emily Victoria explores the passage of time in her new single “Memorise”

Melbourne-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Emily Victoria’s latest dream-pop infused single “Memorise” is an ode to the shifting of time, memory, and the world around us. Emily’s vocals, production, and intricate instrumentals are the highlights of what is a visually stunning photobook-inspired music video, full of lush dreamy pop, warm fuzz, and angelic synths.

Complementing the ethereal soundscapes of “Memorise” is its accompanying music video – directed by Brendan Schoenmaker – which was inspired by photobooks and drawing from the works of Alexandra Savior. The video vividly visualises the fleeting and corruptible nature of memory. Filmed at dawn on beaches and meticulously crafted with attention to colour, the visuals seamlessly intertwine with Emily’s poignant lyricism, capturing the essence of faded recollection.

Further drawing inspiration, aesthetically, from various artists and songs, Emily weaves together a tapestry of influences to create a truly unique sonic experience through the production, helmed by Nao Anzai and vocal production by Lewis Moody and Gareth Thomson, masterfully enhances the song’s expansive and heartfelt nature.

Emily’s introspective lyricism delves into the passage of time and the cyclical progression of nature. As memories become distant, she questions the consistency of visions from events long past.

Emily Victoria’s “Memorise” is a sonic journey that beautifully encapsulates the transient nature of time and memory – with a dream-pop atmosphere, impeccable production, and thought-provoking visuals – and showcases Emily’s immense talent.
