K.Flay explores the wildness of being ‘Shy’ in her newest single

K.Flay has announced her highly anticipated full-length studio album, MONO, set to release in September. To kick off the album, K.Flay also released her second taste of the album with the “Shy”, a song used a platform for K.Flay to showcase her versatility, delving into her personal life and vulnerabilities when it comes to romantic relationships.

Freestyle guitar takes and spontaneous moments during the recording process contribute to the wildness and authenticity of the song, with its captivating blend of catchy hooks, emotive lyrics, and K.Flay’s signature boldness, “Shy” serves as a charming second taste of her upcoming album.

The forthcoming album is a testament to K.Flay’s resilience and creative spirit, as the title itself is a reflection of her new sensory reality, having experienced sudden and complete deafness in her right ear due to SSNHL and Labyrinthitis. Instead of allowing these challenges to dampen her spirit, K.Flay channeled her journey into her music, resulting in her most experimental album to date.

With 14 thought-provoking tracks, K.Flay’s MONO takes listeners on a sonic journey that tackles various themes. Songs like “In America” confront the pressing issues of guns, drugs, and police violence through an upbeat pop lens, while “Irish Goodbye” featuring Pierce The Veil’s Vic Fuentes, delivers an industrial electronic rock. Additionally, “Punisher” explores the demons within K.Flay’s own psyche, delving into the depths of her introspection.

As K.Flay explains, MONO was created during a time of personal transformation. “I started making this record as a person with two working ears,” K.Flay says. “I finished it with only one this is also the first record for which, from start to finish, I was sober.”
