Eat This Music has a delicious new premiere for you from Los Angeles-based Kit Major! They are the band’s latest singles, “Break Up Again” and “I Wish U Didn’t Hate Me So Much“, and they are just a taste of what the namesake of the project, Kit, calls the “Love. Sick. Major.” era, which Kit promises to be exciting – which is an understatement!
Kit Major’s alternative pop sound, instrumentals, production, and vocals are worth checking out in their own right, however, they come out perfectly through the two new singles, like you’re listening to classic rock with a modern twist.
The first of the two, “Break Up Again” features a catchy melody, swirling reverbed “Ah’s”, and also clever lyrics that would be relatable to anyone who wishes for a proper do-over.
Kit infuses her songwriting with the spirit of classic rock, which is evident across the new singles, which evoke sounds that showcase her growth. Kit co-produced “Break Up Again” and recorded the first voice memo for it on the floor of her bathroom on Christmas Day. She had a distinct vision of the harmonies and wanted to capture them without waking her family, and the final product showcased that aspect perfectly.
“‘Break Up Again’ is the first song I’ve ever co-produced,” Kit reiterates. “It was written on Christmas Day and I recorded the first voice memo for it on the floor of my bathroom because I didn’t want to wake up my family…but also because I had a very distinct vision for the harmonies.”
“I Wish U Didn’t Hate Me So Much” (IWUDHMSM) is the second of the two, and it is a cheeky rollercoaster ride of a garage alt-track.
Speaking on the new single, Kit explains that the title is funny to her because it’s such a long sentence. She tried different options, but nothing fit as well as the full sentence.
“I tried every option, but nothing fit as well as just saying the full sentence,” Kit says about the title. “Saying, ‘I wish you didn’t hate me’ is so intense. You can hate me…I just wish you didn’t hate me SO much.”
