Decrease in Value is a female pop duo consisting of Luna and Chanel, and the duo’s debut EP, “Love or Desire” is a remarkable feat that explores the story of the fine line between love and obsession. The EP reflects the duo’s passion for music, which they have both had since childhood.
“The debut EP is about the details of deep love and obsession that slowly steps into the line of stalking habit and not thinking properly because of a person. It is made purposely to be hidden behind upbeat sounding tracks which represents the love side of things, the lyrics represent the obsession.” — Decrease in Value on the story of their debut EP.
“It honestly feels so surreal and amazing to finally have our passion shared with the world, it has been a long two-year journey of recording to get to this point but we are so proud of ourselves,” the duo tells Eat This Music. “We also are really happy that we can share our love and passion for music [with] the world. The album took two years to create and was recorded in February 2021 at a prolific studio. The EP features five songs, each telling a different story about the dark side of love.”
The EP is made up of five genre-bending tracks that have underlying hidden lyrics about the detail of love turning into an obsession. Luna and Chanel created the EP’s concept, with the lyrics written by the duo and the beats created from scratch based on their descriptions of what they wanted. The EP’s sound is a unique blend of Luna and Chanel’s singing and rapping, combined with the raw guitar sounds of the duo’s producer.
“We learnt that we can do better than we ever imagined with our [combined] strengths. We had a lot of fun writing and conducting our passion into the music with the help of our producer bringing it to life and we learnt that we have a bigger creative ability than we thought,” the duo explain after reflecting on their work.
Decrease in Value’s creative process began when the duo wrote their first song and title track, “Love or Desire,” by themselves, and the other songs were added later. Luna and Chanel’s joint effort and creative writing process created the EP’s other songs. The duo’s producer was instrumental in bringing their creative process to life and incorporating it into the beats.

“We lacked a lot of confidence on the microphone at first but slowly over time we gained the confidence to sing and rap at our fullest potential. You may notice a slight difference in our toning in the later songs of the EP but I’m proud of how we grew.” — Decrease in Value on the creative process of their debut EP.
While the EP reflects what Decrease in Value wanted to convey from the start, there were still many lyrics left out of the final project due to length imposed. Luna and Chanel’s personal favourite from the EP is “My First Love,” which features raw guitar sounds from the producer’s own guitars.

Through their EP, Decrease in Value hopes to convey a message of passion and inspire others with their sound and writing style. The duo plans to share more music with the world in the future and continue to inspire and encourage others to follow their dreams. Telling Eat This Music, “We want to convey a message of passion and hopefully inspire people with our sound and writing style.”
