Maya Lucia’s new single ‘i dare u’ is a journey into the nostalgia of 90s alternative pop

Maya Lucia‘s latest single “i dare u” transports us back to the 90s with its alternative pop sound. The track boasts warm acoustics that collide with jangly electric tones, creating an irresistible blend of nostalgia and contemporary sensibility. The single was born out of a fall evening at the Brooklyn bar, Carmelo’s, where Maya recounts a trip to the corner store to avoid buying drinks at the bar.

Maya’s voice is the centrepiece of her latest release and her elastic vocal styling brings an effortless flow between pop and surf-rock, eventually settling into Garage-Pop. Her yearning lyrics, coupled with her soulful delivery, are captivating and create a relatable emotional connection with the listener.

The production of “i dare u” is on par with the rest of the song, it is polished, and the instrumentals provide an intricate and dynamic soundscape that perfectly complements Maya’s vocal style. Samuel Stroup’s drums and James Duncan’s bass provide a punchy backbone that sets the stage for the track’s soaring chorus.

Having spent the last five years bouncing between the Pacific and Atlantic coasts, Maya’s music draws on coastal DIY sounds. She established herself through punchy live shows and magnetic stage presence, linking with current bandmates Samuel Stroup and James Duncan while attending school in Boston before rooting in New York City in Spring 2022.

Maya’s “i dare u” is a stunning addition to her repertoire, showcasing an exceptional vocal range and a knack for crafting catchy – yet emotionally resonant – pop tunes. The single is a testament to her growth as an artist and her unwavering commitment to creating honest and authentic music.
