SLOMO’s ‘Careless and Strange’ is a frenzied post-punk anthem about moments of bliss

Melbourne’s post-punk trio SLOMO make a triumphant return with their latest release “Careless and Strange”. This track marks the first release from their upcoming EP, Lethargy, and showcases the band’s signature style of distorted punk bass, frenzied guitars, and ominous saxophones. It’s a bombastic cacophony that envelopes the listener in a driving bassline and sax meltdown.

Jem’s guitar riffs are intricate and heavily distorted, while Tom’s basslines are groovy and perfectly complement the other instruments. The drumming by Scott is fast and energetic, pushing the tempo of the song forward. The vocals are delivered with a sense of urgency, creating an atmosphere of chaos and euphoria.

“It’s about finding moments of bliss in between the hurdles, driving with your foot held flat to the floor and choosing to be in a euphoric clusterfuck state of happiness, as careless or strange as that feels at first.” — SLOMO

The production of “Careless and Strange” is hypnotising, and nicely recorded with Matt Duffy and mixed/mastered by Mike Deslandes. The track features a mix of live instruments and electronic elements that create a unique sound that is both raw and polished.

SLOMO’s “Careless and Strange” is an infectious mantra that raises a sweat-drenched flag to euphoria. It’s a call to live life with your foot held flat on the floor and to find moments of bliss in between the hurdles. This song is entirely enthralling, unpredictable, and a must-listen for fans of post-punk and experimental music.
