What We’ve Been Listening To: Good Lekker

Good Lekker is a band comprised of a group of friends who love making music. With Gray as the brains behind the name, the band’s choice of a South African slang word for their moniker is quite interesting. But as they say, the name stuck and has become synonymous with their unique sound.

When asked about the origin of the band name, the members of Good Lekker revealed that they were simply a group of friends who came together to pursue their passion for music. Gray, the band member responsible for naming the band, admitted that he was not entirely sure where the name came from but it just felt right. Perhaps it was the catchy sound of the word or the association with South Africa that made it stick, but one thing is for sure – the name Good Lekker has become synonymous with their sound and style.

In terms of musical influences, the members of Good Lekker have been listening to a lot of Beddy Rays lately. Having played with them at a gig years ago, they have since rightfully taken off in the music industry. As for guilty pleasure songs, they have all admitted to being fans of Dua Lipa’s ‘Don’t Start Now’. They couldn’t resist the funky vibes that the song exudes and it’s just too good to ignore.

When it comes to introducing their music to a first-time listener, the band recommends their newest release, ‘Show I Care’. It’s one of their most accessible songs and they are incredibly proud of it. Fans of the band have also expressed their love for ‘Prague’, making it a fan favourite.

Music has always been a creative outlet for the members of Good Lekker. They were interested in music from a young age, but it was when they started playing together in the band that they truly found their calling. The love of creating and performing music live is what keeps them going and has allowed them to cultivate a unique sound that has gained them a following in the music industry.
