Kate Davis explores the personal desires of truth in her newest single ‘Long Long Long’

Kate Davis has released the final pre-release single from her upcoming album and it’s a poignant track called “Long Long Long”. Co-written with Oli Deakin of Lowpines, the song showcases Kate’s transition from being a conservatory-trained jazz musician to an experimental art-rock singer.

The indie-rock-meets-sci-fi track features driving guitars that lay the foundation for an otherworldly sound that takes the meticulousness from her years in the jazz world and applies it here. Kate’s vocal range flows in a stream of consciousness way over the spacious landscape.

“This song longs less for a person, and more for answers. It starts the second half of the album, right after the lowest point in the FiBo story.” — Kate Davis

The track serves as the “back in the saddle” moment for the character FiBo in Kate’s album, as she longs less for a person and more for answers. Kate’s insatiable craving for clarity and destination is evident, as she talks about the visual of driving endlessly through the night. The song further highlights Kate’s experience of hitting the brakes on the life she thought she knew and rebuilding her artistic foundation. She weaves multiple genres, including pop, rock, and alternative, into an intricate tapestry of sound, drawing influence from a vast catalogue of visuals and literary references.

As she transitions to a more musically spiritual place, Kate’s experimentalism is encouraged, and change is part of one’s natural progression as an artist. Kate’s latest album promises to be a deeply personal album, charting its path through the eyes of its central character FiBo, and Kate is taking the very meticulousness she developed from her years in the jazz world and applying them to it.

With ‘Long Long Long’, Kate triumphantly walks away from her previous life as a jazz musician and into her future as a sonic voyager, making her mark on the indie-rock world.

Kate Davis’ ‘Fish Bowl’ will be released on at the end of March via ANTI-.
