PRINS – Something New

PRINS’ newest single is from the release of her five-track EP – which also featured singles ‘That’s the thing x’ – in which the New Zealand pop artist continues to showcase her greatest musical journey, embracing the want for more in life.

“It’s about the feeling of outgrowing a space you once called home, wanting more from your life than people around you and all the psychological effects of that,” PRINS explains about the song’s story. “It also touches on the ‘tall poppy syndrome’ and how difficult that is to navigate as an emerging artist.”

Mel Blue’s “Best Me” is an intoxicating groove-ride that explores the darker side of relationships. Featuring the duo’s key breezy chorus over their bouncy basslines and beats, this track is furthermore a solid understanding of what is to come in 2023.

Ghost Love – Mourners Disco

Ghost Love’s “Mourners Disco” is the title track from the Montreal-based band’s first self-produced album, due out for release in April. The band’s newest song itself explores the story of loss and grief, underneath the showcase of vocalist David’s greatest strength – delicate vocals – and the band’s overall presentation as a strong unit, instrumentally and aesthetically as a whole.

“The song deals with the pain of loss and grief after my mother passed away but also the desire to transcend the pain and to keep dancing and celebrating her life through it,” David says further about the story of Ghost Love’s newest song. “She supported me when I came out as queer and showed me to navigate difficult times in my life so really the song is a tribute to her strength and guidance. It also speaks to the desire to sometimes hold on to the pain or grief as it is the only feeling that sometimes reminds us of the person that we have lost.”

Mia Baron – Normal Again

This is a deeply, powerful single that sees Mia release her inner feelings and emotions in the form of a three-minute and 26-second pop anthem, although, she additionally uses the single to express her version of toxic behaviours.

“I felt lost after making big changes in my life,” Mia says. “I missed being able to feel confident in knowing myself, so I craved feeling normal again.”

Skott – Hail Mary

Skott’s newest single showcases more of her diverse, stunning storytelling and euphoric vocal ranges. However, “Hail Mary” is more than just a song about desperation, it is a focal point for her to showcase her forever-evolving artistry, and creative vision (visually and audibly).

“It’s a prayer of desperation, a long shot in the dark, a hail mary pass from the far end of the field when you have nothing left to lose”, Skott explains about the inspiration for the new single. “It’s your last chance for something or someone and you have to go all-in like it’s now or never. The lyrics are layered with references to American football and spirituality, tied to the feeling of grasping for something that’s slipping away between your fingers.”

Kami Kehoe – loaded gun

Kami Kehoe is a Las Vegas-baed pop-punk rock artist who is gearing up for the release of her debut album in March. Before she smashes down the door of the proverbial landscape, Kami has released her newest single “loaded gun”, a downright gritty mixed anthem, full of honest lyrics, broken emotions, and punch instrumentals that fit the over-arching aesthetics of this beautiful offering.

FLØRE – ZOMBIE

Mixing together a classic nuance of pop and punk, FLØRE offers electric energy through ‘ZOMBIE’ – a song about old flames that long died but keep resurfacing, bringing back all of that wrong energy and sorrow – visually and audibly.

“The song is about the on-off relationships you have with past lovers,” FLØRE adds. “They keep crawling back to you like mindless Zombies, bringing back to life what was already dead.”

Nadu – What Kind Of Man

What Kind Of Man‘ is the last chapter in Nadu’s flirty back-and-forth relationship – with the declaration you are at the end of your rope – as the chorus emphasizes crossed wires and expectations from the other person, through the use of his gritty, punk aesthetics and simple questioning.

“I (Nader) wanted a really hard-hitting yet neo-soul track, came up with a chorus riff reminiscent of an Audioslave/Rage Against The Machine track & put that together with a horn section,” Nadu explains about the song. “[W]hich, with some help from wife Claire, I composed by singing the parts – & then found a horn player to bring it to life in the song. Nadine (drummer) conjured the heart stomping beat throughout.”

Sophie B. Hawkins – Better Off Without You

“Better Off Without You” sees Sophie take her power back, through the reflection on her revolutionary career while also embarking on a new creative chapter of independence and positivity. Whilst this single is a moody anthem aesthetically, it is used as a platform the Sophie to explore the story of betrayal and the transformative triumph of radical self-love, with her anthemic chorus being a highlight.

“This song is cathartic and so true, betrayal and grief can wake you up to stop giving your power away and start fighting for yourself, your life,” Sophie says about the song. “It’s not about the other person, it’s about you.”
