On today’s menu, you’re going to find some delicious new music from Ash Olsen, Paige Corwin, Rebecca Black, Wicked Bears, mmeadows, Shallow Pools, Jenny O., K.Flay, D’Ambrosia, and Teon Gibbs & Jaspa & Jonny Tobin & Falcxne.
Dig in and enjoy!
Internet dream queen Rebecca Black’s newest single continues to show why she shouldn’t just be taken as that girl choosing which seat to sit in all those years ago, as her newest song is a continued expansion of what she wants to say as a respected artist: the fist taste of her “Crumbs” project; is a futuristic music video that metaphorically and physically goes under the skin and inside her mind, delving into the now 25-year-old’s thoughts.

K.Flay’s new single, “It’s Been So Long,” is a sonically driven anthem full of hard-bodied beats to the underlying distortion of K.Flay’s voice. Groovy would be an understatement for this song, as the consistent array of instrumentals and swagger of atmosphere sets itself apart from heavier songs – such as “High Enough” – from the Los Angeles artist.
“It’s Been So Long” is about being in your own power, a true palette cleanser that feels like finally breaking free of the shackles of the past. “There’s that moment after heartbreak or loss or pain when you emerge from the wreckage and finally feel good again – ready to go out dancing, ready to be yourself, ready to feel handsome – and it’s like you’ve been waiting all your life to get back to that place and it feels so so so good when you do get there,” K.Flay says about the release.
Shallow Pools is a Boston-based indie-pop band. Their newest single “Say What You Want” is an idea that was birthed out of a show and Pride event that sparked protest. This is a lyrically and sonically powerful song that was co-written with PVRIS‘ frontwoman Lynn.
“I feel like we always want to make some kind of statement,” Glynnis from Shallow Pools says, “and after that show we wanted to write something that basically said ‘Fuck the haters’. As members of the LGBT community, this song just feels really important to us.”

“Easy” by Teon Gibbs is a song that explores the joy of a new relationship as you try to hold onto those moments of new love. While the song is inspired by someone special to Teon he had a history with, the song’s strongest aspects – other than the story, of course – are its underlying instrumentals, consistent stylish drum pattern and overall atmosphere.
“I developed the drum pattern, then Jonny, Falxcne, Jub and I created this song out of pure synergy,” Teon reveals about the creative process of his new song. “The strings and synths give it this spacey, floating feeling, and we wanted that to have a groove.”
Ash Olsen’s ‘BORING!’ serves as the first single following the release of her 2021 debut EP, since then though the Oslo native has been working hard on new material and this new offering is a strong indication of what is to come – visually and lyrically – as this new song is full of bass-y beats and underlying vocals that showcase the Norwegian’s strengths.
“BORING! is straight up about boring and basic people lol,” Ash says about the new single.
I’m really enjoying Paige’s work! Following on from the release of “Sorry Anthem” back in July, Paige’s newest single showcases some of her strongest attributes: the vocals. Furthermore, “Better Than That” is a raw, honest song that portrays Paige in a simplified tone.
This is the type of song that takes me back to my days as a teenager, enjoying punk shows in small rooms full of people dancing and having a good time; you better believe that is what I would be doing if I were in this music video.
“If you’ve ever dedicated $20 to a claw machine and gone home empty-handed, this song is for you,” the band say. “Lucky is for the unluckiest of us, who are tired of explaining our despondency to those more lucky. Now you don’t have to explain! You can just send them this song. Do you feel lucky? If not, this song is for you.”

This is the first time I’ve given two songs to the one artist in the delicious new music round-up – I will also be including both songs on the next Eat This Music program as well – but I thought it was very fitting as Jenny O’s two new tracks are a beaut. Coming off the release of her 11-track album, “There Is A Club” and “Solitary Girl” are two entirely different soundtracks that showcase a great juxtaposition of instrumentals & vocals in the first instance and then a tightly tuned presentation with backing vocals and band essentials in the latter.
“I feel a wildfire instinct to rage and shred and I am ecstatic to do so with punk music at last on “Solitary Girl”, Jenny O. states on the releases. “At some point, this song became inseparable from “There Is A Club” so I’m releasing them both and hope they live on together.”
New York-based= pop duo mmeadows — made up of current Dirty Projectors member Kristin Slipp and collaborator Cole Kamen-Green — have released their newest single, “By Design”, a song that introduces listeners to the duo’s assortment of fluid, rhythmic, and organic electronic sounds through their usage of found and esoteric vintage instruments — the vocal range of Kristin is not to be overlooked either.
D’Ambrosia is a group out of Canada and their newest single “Hellbound Lover” is a light drawl that speaks to singer-songwriter Kim’s Texan roots – in the way the band combines their haunting atmosphere amongst hazy, heartfelt melodies, instrumentals and tightly layered vocals.
“‘Hellbound Lover’ is a melancholic homage to the eternal pull of the elusive, unavailable ‘bad boy’ type,” Kim says about the release of the band’s song. “The breathy, velvety refrain — ‘I can’t seem to quit you yet’ — evokes the seductive nature of a bittersweet love affair; the one we know we should walk away from, but can’t.”
