I’ve had noelle on my radar ever since coming across her debut song ‘Never Forget You‘ back in 2020. Since then, I’ve tried to keep tabs on her releases. In saying that though, what better time – than any – to have a chat with her upon the release of her newest single ‘Cold Killer?
“Thank you so much! It’s crazy to look back on how fast it all came together,” noelle expresses about the release of her newest single. “We wrote the song in 42 minutes, shot the music video, got the artwork done two weeks later, and put it out two weeks [later]. As soon as we wrote the song, we knew it was special so we just ran with it.”
Following on from the release of ‘30k‘ EP, Cold Killer is the latest offering from the Canadian pop artist – raised on the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory in Ontario, in a family and community that surrounded her with music – that doubles as a learning curve. In fact, during the creative process of this song, she learned that sometimes the best songs are the ones that come easily because there’s so much inspiration.
“Cold Killer is an anthem for anyone that’s been screwed over by somebody they thought they could trust. It’s calling out people that break hearts for fun.” — noelle
As with any artist, they grow and tweak their styling as they gain confidence in their abilities; noelle is no different – Cold Killer came together a bit differently than noelle’s other songs usually do. This song pinpoints her mindset, as she details below.
“I normally base a song on a lyric or melody idea I have,” noelle explains, “but cold killer was started based on the beat.”
‘Cold Killer’ is a quite straightforward type of song in terms of its message and sound. noelle perfectly summed up everything she wanted to say with this song, and it shows – lyrically and sonically. “Sonically, I love high falsetto,” noelle adds, “and we included that in the background with adlibs.”
In saying that though, you’d be remiss to overlook the fact there is a message – of sorts from noelle: This is the type of song noelle hopes people find some sort of empowerment in.
“I just want anyone that’s going through that situation to know that they’re not alone,” noelle says. “I want Cold Killer to empower them, to help them move on, and see it for what it is.”
noelle still has a lot to explore, learn and tell through her music. ‘Cold Killer’ is a great track that showcases some of her best attributes. Now that her song is out, she already has another single due out for release in November. It’s called ‘Never Going Home’, which noelle assures you she is very excited for.
“I’m opening for Virginia To Vegas and Ria Mae on tour in a few weeks as well,” noelle reveals to Eat This Music at the end of our chat. “I’m so excited for what’s to come.”
