Lyzzie explores the conflicting emotions of relationships in her new melodramatic single “IJWYD”

Lyzzie is an indie-pop artist out of Canada, and I’d be remised to overlook the fact of how easily she incorporates the dark sides of her life into a seamless array of storytelling. Each song she writes shares the different experiences she has had with her mental health. Music is a powerful tool for healing and her goal is to help as many people as she can to feel not as alone in their thoughts and experiences.

“‘IJWYD‘ is my not-so-subtle hint about what I wanted to say to a former partner but never did at the time,” Lyzzie says. “A grown man fell in love with me when I was in high school. I’ve felt a lot of conflicting emotions surrounding this relationship: disgust and anger but also heartbreak and betrayal.”

This song has taught Lyzzie that she is allowed to be mad and upset.

“It was a terrible situation, and it caused a lot of turmoil in my life,” Lyzzie continues. “I can be over it completely and still be upset about the situation itself.” It would be an understatement to say that Lyzzie has been on a huge journey of self-discovery and self-love up until this point.

Lyzzie adds. “I’m making decisions for myself and doing what makes me happy. I was so nervous to release this song because of the dark content. But now, I’m the most excited I’ve ever been! I can’t wait to share my debut EP with the world.”
