Today’s delicious song of the day is “Dream Rats (featuring Alissa White-Gluz)” by the Canadian band No Joy, from their forthcoming album ‘Motherhood‘, which is out this Friday through Joyful Noise Recordings.
I don’t know what to make of this song… I mean, it is great: the instrumentals work perfectly, the aesthetics and visuals are appealing, and I think Alissa’s vocals are amazing. In fact, Alissa is the frontwoman of the deathcore band Arch Enemy, so there is no doubt she has talent, which makes for an overall great mix.
Speaking on the release of the track, No Joy member Jasmine White-Gluz explains that she has never collaborated musically with her sister before: “When we were kids we would sing and play music together but as we’ve both become adults,” she continues, “[and as] touring musicians we’ve never had a chance to work together.” This is the heaviest song on No Joy’s record, so it felt fitting to have the sisters team up on this track. “There is something special about her being on this album, specifically because it’s an exploration of family and motherhood,” Jasmine continues.
The video portion of the single features a duck named Success, who in fact is somewhat of a local celebrity in Montreal, Canada. With this video, Joy and her sister, Alissa wanted to take this opportunity to spotlight the Le Nichoir Wild Bird Rehabilitation Centre, which is a non-profit organisation located in Quebec. Their mission is to conserve wild birds as part of our natural heritage.
