Eat This Song of the Day: ‘Bein’ Alone’ by Selci

Today’s delicious song of the day is the vibe-heavy, soothing electronic anthem ‘Bein’ Alone‘ by Canadian artist Selci. ‘Bein’ Alone’ comes off the release of Selci’s brand new EP, ‘A Soft Place‘, which saw the additional releases of ‘Hide Forever‘ and ‘For You‘ earlier in March and July, respectively.

“On this EP, you can hear the influence that dance music has had on my work,” Selci says. “Over the past couple of years, I have taken to house music by virtue of a strong dance community in Calgary. When I first heard house music, my body disappeared. It’s an enormous form of escapism for me. All of my anxieties are gone, and the only thing I hear is the music.” Going deeper into the EP, Selci explains that she wanted to craft something to tune out the noise and bask in catharsis, where she could fall into the couch and be comfortable, dance the pain away, laugh with friends, or look at herself in the mirror and love who she is.

Nothing much else to say on this track, other than I enjoy Selci’s work a lot and this EP is a great example of how good she is; not just as an instrumentalist and producer, but also as a vocalist and overall musician. ‘A Soft Place‘ and ‘Body Worship‘ are great examples of what she can do.
