Sydney-based alt-rock band SOULSLEEP (S) are fans of Bring Me The Horizon, Rain City Drive, Thornhill, Northlane, Bad Omens, and they would like to collaborate with NF.
SOULSLEEP’s debut single ‘Glass Heart’ is now out.
Who is SOULSLEEP, and how did the namesake come about?
S: The name SOULSLEEP came to light when brainstorming ideas about a name. We wanted the group name to have some kind of sentimental and emotional meaning behind it. It was important to us that they could commemorate their loved ones that have passed away. The word “soul” struck a chord with us. After some time of playing with words at the end of “soul”, our vocalist Jake shouted “SOULSLEEP”, and they all looked at each other and knew “that was it”.
What artists or bands are on your must-listen to list lately and why?
S: Artists on our “must-listen-to” list lately would be NF for the deep and meaningful lyrics and the rawness of their content. Other artists would have to be Bring Me The Horizon and Bad Omens because of the way they blend electronic and metal elements together seamlessly. ‘Rain City Drive‘ for their beautiful and memorable vocal melodies. Thornhill and Northlane for their appealing and innovative instrumentation.
When you go into the recording studio to work on new material, what are your must-haves?
S: When we hit the studio, our must-haves are “a lot of ideas”, a couple of demos and an open mind to create something fresh.
Which song, or songs, of yours would you recommend to a first-time listener and why?
S: For a first-time listener, I would suggest ‘Glass Heart’ as it is high-energy throughout the song, with huge sing-along moments and an EDM breakdown at the end.
Which song of someone’s else’s (artist or band) would you have liked to feature on and why?
S: If we had the opportunity to collaborate with another artist, we would probably choose “NF”. Selecting a single song is hard because they are all so amazing. His songs are very impactful, emotional and powerful. We would love to be a part of spreading those types of messages and using music as a medium to inspire positivity in the world and potentially being able to help anyone who is battling their own inner demons
What led you into becoming a musician(s) and why do you keep making music?
S: Becoming a musician and writing music for us is a way to formulate our thoughts and feelings towards the world, and it is a way to express the deepest emotions that we, throughout our lives, struggle to talk about.
