Manchester-based quartet Hungry brings a no-nonsense, hard-hitting attitude to their latest single, “On Sight,” merging fury with fun in an unapologetic political punk explosion. The track serves as a scathing commentary on impotent middle-class guilt and selective scruples, delivering a relentless, sweat-dripping socio-political message.
“On Sight” is a bold continuation of Hungry’s musical journey, following the impactful release of “The Jig” earlier in 2023. A fierce rebuke of elitist, dishonest establishment rule, “The Jig” earned the band a place in British political discourse. Hungry’s ability to craft precision-made grenades of truth through observational lyrics and devastating caricatures is evident, seamlessly connecting disparate genres like math-rock, funk, and energetic new wave guitar pop.
Jacob – Hungry’s singer-guitarist frontman – sheds light on the inspiration behind “On Sight”, saying that the song attempts to paint the character of those who turn against their moral views for profit. “While doing harm and working against progressive change, people often still believe they are doing a good thing,” Jacob continues. “Sometimes it’s a state of wilful ignorance, sometimes people are victims of systemic deceit, but either way often only make shifts in their position or behaviour based on their individual situation, rather than any concrete morality.”
