Adelaide, Australia-based pop-punk band Down And Out has recently released their latest single, ‘Lost [In Exposure]’, and it’s a relentless, unapologetic anthem that showcases the band at their best: where frontman Luke Ganeo’s emotively-charged vocals take center stage, giving a glimpse a genuine and endearing quality.
Joining the mix, the vocals of Emmy Mack complement Luke’s fantastic performance, adding depth and an infectious energy to the already captivating sound. The chemistry between the two respective vocalists is evident throughout the 2-minute and 26 second song, creating a dynamic and engaging experience. Down And Out’s inspiration behind the song comes from the struggle of finding purpose and passion, and the realisation that music is not merely a desire but an essential part of their being.
“‘Lost [In Exposure]’ is about realising I’m at a point in my life where music is becoming the only viable option,” Luke says about the song. “I was told by everyone around me that it was a pipe dream so I went to Uni, then I got a job and I did all the things I was supposed to do, and it always felt like there was a hole inside me.”

Who are Down And Out and how did the namesake come about?
Down And Out are a pop/punk band from Adelaide, Australia. Our band name is a reference to that one Taylor Swift song where she says ‘down and out’. Maybe it was that Led Zeppelin song where he says, ‘down and out’. Anyway, we’re called Down And Out.
What artists or bands are on your must-listen to list lately and why?
Putbull, Three 6 Mafia, The Beach Boys, Oasis, Down And Out, the soundtrack to Inside by Bo Burnham and Shania Twain.
When you go into the recording studio to work on new material, what are your must-haves?
Guitars. Also, just a truly incomprehensible amount of yogurt and puddings.
Which song, or songs, of yours would you recommend to a first-time listener and why?
Paper Skin and then Paint Me Gold. They’re the best ones.
Which song of someone’s else’s (artist or band) would you have liked to feature on and why?
I wish I could’ve done harmonies on Good Vibrations by The Beach Boys. But, alas, I was dead at the time.
What led you into becoming a musician(s) and why do you keep making music?
I thought it would get girls to talk to me. I’m still hopeful.
