When ‘Airy Met Fairy is a Nordic trip-top duo out of Reykjavík, Thorunn and Mike make dreamy, melancholic music; just like their latest album “Esprit De Corps“. Translated literally from the French expression, Esprit De Corps means ‘spirit of the body’.
Who is on your current “Must Listen To” list and why?
Thorunn: Billie Eilish is one of the artists that recently broke through. Absolutely deserved.
Mike: Other than that we listen to Sigur Ros, Alt J and great stuff like that.
What are your guilty pleasure songs?
Thorunn: You know I can’t believe saying this, but I’m actually a fan of Taylor Swift. I think she writes great songs. There are so many old cheesy songs out there that make me smile and I’m not ashamed to admit that I love to listen to “Push It” by Salt-N-Pepa and “Never Gonna Give You Up” by Rick Astley. “Sweet Child O’Mine” by Gun’s and Roses is a classic, too.
Mike: I get tears in my eyes when I hear “She’s like the wind” by Patrick Swayze.
Which song would you have liked to feature on and why?
Mike: Any song by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. I have a lot of respect for these guys. Amazing songwriting!
Thorunn: Radiohead “No surprises”. I think I would still have goosebumps if I had done that track with Thom Yorke. To me, it’s one of the most inspiring songs ever.
Which song of yours would you recommend to a first-time listener and why?
Thorunn: “Blanket of Sorrow” followed by “On your own again”. Both show the two faces of our dreamy but at times energetic trip-hop.
Mike: “That’s my rocknroll” is the perfect door to our universe. It reveals who we are as musicians.
What keeps you making music?
Mike: I’m a slave to music. Without it die.
Thorunn: Music is my drug. Without I die.
