West Midlands’ Loveday explains why she is a fan of FKA Twigs, The Japanese House, Billie Eilish, James Blake, Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, Avril Lavigne, Katy B, Matthew Wilder and Childish Gambino in the new issue of ‘What I’ve Been Listening To’.
Loveday: “Here’s a link to my ‘LovedayLoves’ playlist on Spotify, this includes tracks I’ve recently fallen in love with and some of my all-time faves.”
What is on your ‘Must Listen To’ list lately and why?
A recent release that caught my attention is ‘Cellophane’ by FKA twigs, when I first heard this song I just thought ‘oh my god this is beautiful’. The way her vocal breaks at times in such a venerable yet memorising way, is just wow.
I’m also slightly obsessed with The Japanese House’s debut album ‘Good At Falling’, especially the songs ‘Lilo’ and “Maybe You’re The Reason’. I love her lyrics, genius yet relatable. I’m also a sucker for a vocoder. These songs also have awesome music videos FYI.
I’m also loving the new albums by Billie Eilish and James Blake. My favourites from each album are ‘ilomilo’ (Billie) and ‘Power on’ (James), both gorgeous tracks.
Which are your guilty pleasure songs?
I have so many guilty pleasure songs so it’s going to be difficult to narrow it down, but my number one guilty pleasure is ‘Islands in the stream’ by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers. No matter what mood I’m in this song always puts a huge smile on my face and I’m not even sure why.
Complicated – Avril Lavigne
Katy On A Mission – Katy B – I recently started listening to this again and can’t help but listen to it when I travel anywhere, it’s such a tune.
Break My Stride – Matthew Wilder – The ULTIMATE motivation song
Which song would you have liked to feature on?
Redbone – Childish Gambino HANDS DOWN
It probably wouldn’t have quite gotten 590,000+ streams on Spotify if I’d sung a verse but it would feel amazing to be part of such an outstanding track.
Which song of yours would you recommend to a first-time listener and why?
I would recommend listening to ‘Stay Loyal’, I think this song is like a hybrid of the different style songs I’ve released, it sums up what my music is all about.
What keeps you making music?
Sometimes it is easy to feel unsatisfied with my own music, which can make me feel unmotivated. What always brings me out of this is just listening to music. Listening to the songs I love easily reminds me of how passionate I am about music and how much I love what I do.
