Teddy Fontana is a singer, songwriter and musician. And 2021 has been pretty good for the artist out of Los Angeles so far. Aside from doing random crafts and puzzles and watching TV, Teddy has spent a lot of time making music. “I’m always thrilled to tie a bow on a project that’s been in the works for a while,” Teddy tells Eat This Music. “The process of writing to then creating sound recordings is a long process. I love being able to have the final product out as one body of work and share it with people.”
“I’m always thrilled to tie a bow on a project that’s been in the works for a while,” Teddy reminisces about her new EP, which is out now. “The process of writing to then creating sound recordings is a long process. I love being able to have the final product out as one body of work and share it with people.”
The title Paradise City is symbolic of Los Angeles itself. Both grungy and paradisical at the same time. Famously vibrating with so much possibility and inspiration but also sometimes lonely and daunting. I feel like the EP encapsulates a lot of that. Teddy had a great team that she worked with on this project, “I worked with other writers and musicians on this project so it’s different than a lot of my other music which is somewhat more personal and detailed lyrically,” she says. “This was more of a collaborative effort, but it was a great experience and I really value my team.”
Teddy’s EP was more collaborative in the sense that she worked with other writers on each song with a specific goal in mind. With a lot of her other work, it’s usually Teddy just getting her feelings out in a more isolated process. Although, with this EP, she had distinct objectives about each song to create certain imagery and sounds.
Recording the EP at Lala mansion studios in Laurel Canyon was inspiring to the project because of the music history there. That was a large part of the reason I wanted to reference Los Angeles in the title. — Teddy Fontana on her new EP
Teddy and her team spent a lot of time there recording and it was really inspiring. And when it comes to favourite songs on the EP, the lead single, “Now” is Teddy’s absolute favorite. It is a song she can’t wait to start performing live. It has such a special energy and is just a really fun and vibrant track sonically.
“I hope it’s something a listener can put on and enjoy all the way through,” Teddy tells Eat This Music. “I really feel like its a cohesive playlist but also each song is distinctly different and unique”
