The Great Divorce isn’t exactly what you think it is – it has nothing to do with an actual divorce – it’s actually the debut album of Melbourne-based singer/songwriter Ben Wright Smith.

Following on from the release of is previous track ‘Sand Grabber’, Ben Wright Smith releases the entirety of his album, which features 10 other songs that showcases a diverse range of styles from the Rock aficionado.

Working in collaboration with producing partners in Melbourne Oscar Dawson from Holy Holy, Ali Barter, Tyler Milliott (previously working with Husky and Ali Barter), Jesse Williams (previously working with Leah Senior and Girlatones) and Andrew Braidner (previously working with Stonefield, Ali Barter and Redcoats), and , this first ditch effort by Ben Wright Smith feels like one big family collaboration on an 11-track offering of diverse styles, from alternative rock, to sweet pop and the addition of a strong narrative of musical progression.

With Ben noting how he structured the album as new sounds came to him throughout the creation process.

“As we keep performing I think new elements and sounds begin to take hold. These ones tell the story of how I was feeling at the time.”

Ben Wright Smith’s ‘The Great Divorce‘ will be released tomorrow (March 17) via Ronnie Records through MGM Distribution.

To celebrate the release of his debut album, Ben is heading out on an extensive 20 show tour with the tour kicking off on Thursday, 20 April at Some Velvet Morning in Clifton Hill and concluding on Saturday, 29 July at the Northcote Social Club in Northcote, the tour will see Ben travel throughout Victoria, the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia in other places such as Castlemaine, Geelong, Canberra, Wagga Wagga, Hardys Bay, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Toowoomba, Maroochydore, Sydney, Woollongong, Warrnambool, Adelaide and Mildula in their respective cities.
