Spinifex Gum is the collaborative trip of Felix Riebl and Ollie McGill from The Cat Empire and Marliya of all-female indigenous choir group, Gondwana Choirs and today they have released their debut single ‘Locked Up’, featuring the additional vocals of Adam Briggs aka Briggs.

This powerful and engaging song takes takes an honest and heartfelt look at the sickening rate and treatment of Indigenous Youth in juvenile detention and the current domestic issues they face.

Speaking on the creation of the single, Briggs noted how he “got involved with the song — artistically; it sounded phenomenal.”

“The youth justice is something I’m passionate about and the girls’ voices have brought light to such an intense subject matter. The choirs have brought such an original, honest, powerful and moving presence to the Spinifex Gum project and it was a pleasure to be part of.”

Locked Up is the first taste of what’s to come off Spinifex Gum’s forthcoming self-titled debut album, due out for release 27 October and it is available for pre-order now.
