Screech Bats are an alternative punk/rock/grunge, female four-piece out of London, England and today Lexi, Esme, Rio and Kit have released their sophomore EP ‘Wish You Were Her‘, an EP that explores themes of real-life relevance, as the EP is essentially “about women who have, for entirely different reasons, had a profound impact on my life, but are no longer in it,” explains vocalist Esme.
“Most of the lyrics are drawn from real experiences and on the whole we want to make dark, often ‘taboo’ topics, approachable with a positive message.”
Featuring only five songs and coming in just under 15 minutes, Wish You Were Her is an interesting EP, as it features gems like ‘Blood In My Hair’, ‘Just Like You’ and fan favourite ‘Get Better’, which also offering two of the best tracks on the EP, ‘Every Good Thing’ and ‘That Valentine Song’, respectively.
Esme also worked on the EP artwork includes “a feminine face in the artwork to mirror the title but somehow censoring the eyes,” which essentially “gives the character anonymity, making whoever we are talking about a total enigma.”
Working in collaboration with with James Routh of Sonic Boom Six on the EP and featuring songs like ‘Every Good Thing’ and ‘That Valentine Song’, it isn’t difficult to see why this is an underrated EP full of gritty punk rock vocals, alternative rock fast sounds, and vibes for days.
2018 looks to be a big year for the four-piece out of London as Wish You Were Her is a great new record and with shows coming up soon, the EP serves as a great platform for these four artists to show why they are one of the best newcomers at the moment.
